Unlock savings: The ultimate guide to 2024’s top NHS discounts

From technology to cosmetics to food, there are plenty of discounts out there for NHS workers, it’s just a matter of knowing where to find them. I have created this NHS discount list so you don’t have to go trawling the internet to find the best deals… I’ve even found a discount on colposcopy cameras.

NHS Staff Discount List

NHS discount list

Let’s be honest, most NHS workers don’t have it easy. The hours are unsociable, can be very long and does the pay really reflect the work you put in? The government may think it does, but fortunately, many organisations realise you deserve extra recognition.

Below is a list of the best discounts available to NHS staff. Okay, so they may not be life-changing, but every little helps. And for anybody who remembers that slogan from Tesco… they don’t offer any deals.

Food

Morrisons

Through much of 2020, Morrisons offered 10% off grocery bills to NHS workers. That generous discount was stopped in early 2021 but has now been replaced. Kind of.

You can now sign up for the Morrisons NHS Club, which is an extension of the Morrisons More loyalty scheme. Once you’ve supplied your NHS email address, you’ll be eligible for exclusive discounts. However, from what I have seen, they are a little underwhelming… certainly not 10% territory.

Take a look at how to join.

Domino’s

Domino’s offers NHS workers up to 50% off their orders. However, you will need to check with your local store. Domino’s is a franchise, which means offers from various stores will differ. My local will give 50% off (yay), but only if you collect (boo).

The downside is the 50% off is available on pizzas only. Or so my local store says. Again, others seem to offer 50% off everything. If you search hard enough for Domino’s vouchers, these sometimes offer 50% off pizzas and sides.

Frankie & Benny’s

NHS staff are entitled to 20% off when dining in at Frankie and Benny’s. Valid seven days a week when a main course is ordered, per adult. It’s limited to four people per ID card.

Mcdonald’s

A 20% discount was introduced during Covid, and although McDonald’s has threatened to end it several times, it’s now not due to finish until the 31st of December 2024.

To qualify, you will need to download the McDonald’s app and link it to your NHS email address. Once done, you’ll receive 20% off main menu items once per week. McDonald’s NHS discount.

Nando’s

Nandos discount for NHS staff

If you’re a lover of chicken (and I mean the cooked kind, not feathered), then pop to Nando’s. If you’re not, then visit elsewhere. However, Emergency Service workers receive 20% off for orders of a value up to £20. Ok, so not a massive amount, but it all counts.

All you need to do is show your ID badge when you pay.

Make sure you also download the Nando’s app to earn free meals when you collect enough stamps.

Tim Hortons

This Canadian fast-food restaurant gives NHS staff 10% off their food bill. Just show your NHS ID when you come to pay. However, you can’t combine it with any other special offers. Tim Hortons NHS discount.

Leon

Probably the healthiest option on this list. You’ll get 15% off when you show your NHS ID. If ordering at a kiosk, you can ask a staff member for a code to enter. The discount doesn’t work with Leon’s meal deals or kid’s menu items. Leon T&Cs.

Fashion and cosmetics

Superdrug

You’ll receive 10% off at Superdrug if you show your NHS staff ID and a registered Health & Beautycard at the checkout. This is in-store only though.

Benefit Cosmetics

Benefit Cosmetics provides all kinds of beauty products and offers 15% off to NHS staff. Find out how to verify your employment and claim your discount.

Lookfantastic

If Benefit Cosmetics isn’t enough for you, how about Lookfantastic? NHS staff can receive a 21% discount on certain cosmetic products by signing up here.

Cho Fashion and Lifestyle

NHS workers receive 10% off orders once they have verified their employment. Sign up for Cho’s discount scheme.

Footasylum

There’s a 10% discount available to NHS staff at Footasylum. However, it can only be used online against full-price products. You will need to verify your employment details before you receive your discount.

FARFETCH

FARFETCH provides a range of men’s, women’s and children’s clothes. Plus, they’ll give you a discount of 10%. FARFETCH discount for NHS workers.

Technology

tier1

tier1 claims to be the UK’s number one IT Lifecycle service. This is the place to go if you’re looking for refurbished tech and fancy helping the environment. On top of that, NHS and other Key Workers will receive a further 15% discount.

Samsung

The discount you receive from Samsung depends on what you’re buying. But expect to receive up to 20% on televisions and 10% on Galaxy products. Find out more about the Samsung discount offer.

Casio

Did you know that Casio sold colposcopy cameras? Probably not, but it’s useful to know if your hospital needs one. Anyhow, they also sell watches, calculators and musical equipment. NHS staff can receive a 10% discount using an exclusive code. Find out more about the Casio Key Worker scheme.

Apple

NHS discounts at Apple

So not the cheapest of products, but a discount is a discount. You can get up to 10% off of Apple products through their Employee Purchase Program.

Please note that the original NHS discount link for Apple no longer works and nor does the NHS Staff Offers page. You will need to go through another discount provider, like the Blue Light card.

Dell

If you’re looking for a computer and Apple isn’t your bag, take a look at Dell. Their programme offers up to 20% discount on Dell branded consumer products, including free delivery and returns

Once you have verified you are an NHS employee, you will receive a voucher which will entitle you to your discount.

Find out more about the NHS discount with Dell.

Mobile phones

Carphone Warehouse

Carphone Warehouse mainly provides NHS staff with vouchers when they purchase handsets and phone contracts. Claim the Carphone Warehouse NHS discount.

Vodafone

NHS staff receive 15% off SIM-only or SIM plans with a device. To claim, you need to provide a National Health Service email address. If you don’t have one, you can visit a Vodafone store and take a payslip and your ID badge. The only downside is that you must pay a £10 membership fee, which is charged on your first bill.

Another bonus is that a nominated friend or family member can also receive a discount. You can apply online or in-store.

O2

Not to be outdone by Vodafone, o2 will give you up to 25% off an airtime contract when you purchase a new phone or tablet on o2 refresh.

Once you purchase the device, you have 28 days to claim your discount. However, you cannot claim if you bought your airtime through a 3rd party such as Carphone Warehouse. It only works if you purchase straight through o2.

Whether this is a great bargain depends on the cost of your new device. Take a look at O2 Open for more details.

EE

Employees of emergency services, plus their friends and family can receive a 20% discount on selected pay monthly plans.

You can earn your discount online, in-store or through their call centre. You can look at the EE site for more details.

Travel & lifestyle

Vision Express

NHS workers can enjoy a 20% discount at Vision Express for glasses, sunglasses (including prescription), and contact lenses, exclusively online. All you need to do is verify your NHS ID to receive an exclusive code, which can be used when you checkout.

Find out more about the Vision Express Key Worker scheme.

Taylor Wimpey

A little underwhelmed with a few pounds off some shoes or a meal? How about up to £15,000 off a new Taylor Wimpey home? This isn’t eligible for every home, but it is worth checking out.

Taylor Wimpey discount scheme.

Hilton Hotels

If you fancy getting away from it all, Hilton Hotels offers up to 40% off to NHS staff. With over 40 hotels in London alone, you really are spoilt for choice. And it’s easy to book too. Give them a call or book online and select Gov/Military rates.

Discounts at hotels for NHS staff

But… a word of warning. When I checked prices, I noticed that due to a sale, normal hotel prices were cheaper than Government rates. Make sure you check prices carefully!

The best NHS discount

Probably the best-known discount for NHS employees is the Blue Light Card. It’s free to join online or will cost just £4.99 for two years if you want a physical card. I bought the card because it gives you a bigger range of discounts.

The Blue Light Card gives you a discount on almost any service you can think of. Cinemas, insurance, theme parks, motoring and, rather ironically, private healthcare. Plus, you can buy gift cards for major chains for a decent discount. You can look at my Blue Light Card review in further detail.

mylifestyle

mylifestyle offering money off for nhs staff

mylifestyle is available to almost all government employees. It’s free to join and is a site with multiple benefits. If you’re a parent spending a fortune on care for your kids, you can order childcare vouchers. Or, if you fancy a new bike, you can look at joining the Cycle to Work scheme.

But it doesn’t stop there. Plenty of discounts are available for almost all major chains across the UK. These come in the form of a gift card or e-gift card (for online shopping) and can save you anything from 1% up to 15% at your favourite stores. The major supermarkets are listed – imagine 3.5% off your weekly shop for life! And if that’s not enough, you can find discounts on holidays and days out.

Health Service Discounts

cashback from health service discounts

Health Service Discounts works in a similar way to the Blue Light Card when you’re shopping online (there’s no physical card). You’ll either follow a link from their website, which will give you an automatic discount, or you’ll be given a code. The scheme also comes with the ode cashback card, which allows you to collect cashback when you shop at certain retailers.

The scheme is completely free to use.

Visit the Health Service Discount site to find out more.

Other retailers which offer NHS discounts

If you want to read about some other discounts available, why not take a look at:

Although I’ve covered the major retailers, this is by no means a comprehensive list of NHS staff discounts. Plenty of smaller shops want to say a big thank you too. If you don’t ask, you don’t get. But remember that with many of these discounts, you will need to prove that you work for the NHS, so don’t forget your ID!

And don’t forget that if you wear a uniform for work, you could be entitled to a tax rebate. Find out how to claim yours for free.
