This week, I managed to save over 25% on my grocery shopping just from checking a couple of apps. It took me just a couple of minutes to sort out and you could save too.
As I’m sure you’re aware, I’m always looking to save money with minimal effort. And to be honest, minimal effort sounds like hard work. But one of the best and easiest sources to save money is from my phone.
Apart from shopping and TV apps, I also have financial apps coming out of my ears (not literally). Whether it’s a budgeting app, banking app or cashback app, they’re all there because they help me to manage my money.
But one of the main benefits that I often overlook is hidden away in my banking apps. Many banks now offer cashback at certain retailers. All you need to do is add the offer to your account, shop using your bank card and earn your cashback.
I have current accounts with Santander, Halifax, and Lloyds which all offer cashback features.
Sitting at home, bored, I was browsing through my Santander app and was surprised to find an offer for 15% off at Morrisons, with up to a maximum of £10 back.
Although it’s not the nearest supermarket to my home, there is one close to work, so I thought it would be rude not to visit.
But that’s not all…
I remembered that a cashback site I use called Airtime Rewards also offered 1% back at Morrisons. With this app, all you need to do is link your credit or debit card and cashback is applied automatically. You can then put anything you earn towards your mobile phone bill.
But, much to my surprise, I discovered that Airtime Rewards was actually offering 10% on a spend of £20 or more.
So, between Santander and Airtime Rewards, my amazing maths figured out that was 25% back.
Don’t forget about receipt scanning apps. There are several apps that reward me for scanning my receipts, including ZipZero which pays 1%. So that’s even more money saved!
Morrison’s isn’t my usual supermarket, so I had no idea where anything was. Plus, I had 15 minutes between finishing work and collecting my kids from school. Basically, picture a 40-year-old man on Supermarket Sweep, and that was me. But, in the short time I was there, I managed to spend a total of £60. You can’t go wrong with meat and alcohol.
So that’s £15 off my bill, just from clicking a few buttons.
If you have a banking app, why not take a look to see if there are any rewards available to you?
And take a look at Airtime Rewards. If you decide to join, use the code 8YXY4BLK and we’ll both get 50 pence when you join. We’ll also get another £1 each if you spend within 7 days.
