You could earn a £150 Expedia voucher in just 15 minutes, from a First Direct Account switch. And if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, you could choose from a range of gifts.
First Direct Account Switch
What’s it all about?
For those of you who don’t know, over the last few years, it has become far easier to swap your current account over to a new provider. This has led to a lot more people changing their accounts, which in turn has meant that banks have started to offer better and better incentives for you to switch to them.
What is on offer?
Taken from their website:
To get the ‘hello’ gift you need to open a 1st Account, switch your everyday banking to us using the Current Account Switch Service and pay in at least £1,000 within three months of opening the account. You must be over 18 to open an account. Once you’ve met all the criteria, within 14 days you will receive an email with a unique registration code and instructions about how you can choose your gift. You can choose from one of our tech gifts, Online courses or Expedia voucher so there are different timings for when you’ll receive your gift. But you’ll have 90 days from when you complete your gift registration to choose your gift.
Currently, First Direct is offering an Amazon Echo Spot, £150 Expedia vouchers, Bose headphones, Fitbit, Polaroid OneStep camera or an online course from Blue Mountain. These gifts do change, so please check the First Direct site for the latest deals.
They must be quite a good bank then?
First Direct is often rated as the best bank for customer service. I used to be a member, and never had any problems. However, I couldn’t turn down £100! So I gave them a call, explained that I didn’t like the app (which isn’t great), and they sent me £100. Plus I swapped to HSBC, who also gave me a switching bonus, so I was quids in!
Any other benefits?
They offer a £250 interest-free overdraft. Plus you could open a Regular Saver Account. This pays 5% interest for the first year (you can pay in a maximum of £300 per month), which is far more than most other accounts. Find out more about savings accounts here.
Any tricky terms and conditions?
Not really. You must already have a bank account and use the switching service, which will take around seven days. This obviously means that your old account will be closed. Then all you need to do is transfer in £1000 within three months of your new account opening. And that’s it.
