First Direct Account Switch
What’s it all about?
For those of you who don’t know, over the last few years, it has become far easier to swap your current account over to a new provider. This has led to a lot more people changing their accounts, which in turn has meant that banks have started to offer better and better incentives for you to switch to them.
Why up to £200?
Swap to First Direct and once you’ve paid in £1000, they will send you a £100 welcome within 28 days. However, if you stay with them for six months and you’re not happy with their service, leave and they will give you a further £100.
They must be quite a good bank then?
First Direct is often rated as the best bank for customer service. I used to be a member, and never had any problems. However, I couldn’t turn down £100! So I gave them a call, explained that I didn’t like the app (which isn’t great), and they sent me £100. Plus I swapped to HSBC, who also gave me a switching bonus, so I was quids in!
Any other benefits?
They offer a £250 interest-free overdraft. Plus you could open a Regular Saver Account. This pays 5% interest for the first year (you can pay in a maximum of £300 per month), which is far more than most other accounts. Find out more about savings accounts here.
Any tricky terms and conditions?
Not really. You must already have a bank account and use the switching service, which will take around seven days. This obviously means that your old account will be closed. Then all you need to do is transfer in £1000 within three months of your new account opening. And that’s it.
