Fancy 2 for 1 on movies and meals for a whole year? Take a look at how you can sign up for Meerkat meals and movies from as little as £1.01.

As I’m sat here looking out the window, it’s chucking it down.  So, what’s the default option? That’s right, a trip to the cinema. The issue is, it’s not always the cheapest option, especially for two adults. That’s why signing up for Meerkat meals could save you a lot of money on an evening out. And the best thing is, you can join for less than the price of a movie ticket.

What is Meerkat meals and movies?

There’s a good chance you’ve seen the TV adverts (and ignored them as I have). Meerkat is run by Compare The Market, a price comparison website that helps you find a better price when it comes to insurance and financial products. As a thank you for using them, Compare The Market offers you 2 for 1 on movies for a year when you take out any policy. And recently, they also added an extra incentive of 2 for 1 on meals too.

How does it work?

Visit Compare The Market site and purchase a qualifying product. These are listed as:

  • Purchase: Car insurance, Motorcycle insurance, Van insurance, Contents and/or Buildings insurance, Pet insurance, Life insurance, Business insurance, Landlord insurance or Travel insurance;
  • Switch: Domestic energy (gas and/or electric), Broadband, Home telephone or Digital TV;
  • Obtain: a Credit card or Loan, Mobile phone contract or SIM only contract;

Once you’ve bought your product, you’re given either a policy or receipt number. You will need to either login or create a new account back at Compare The Market and enter this number. Then, all being well, your Meerkat discount should be ready to use. All you need to do is download the app.

Which cinemas accept Meerkat movies?

Most major chains, such as Vue, Cineworld and Odeon accept the 2 for 1 Meerkat offer. There are also some local independent cinemas that do. Luckily, the Meerkat app will tell you the closest cinemas to you and whether they accept 2 for 1.

Which restaurants accept Meerkat meals?

Quite a lot of major restaurant chains accept the 2 for 1 Meerkat offer. Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito, Ask, and Pizza Hut are just a selection, plus there are plenty of independent restaurants. Again, the Meerkat app will tell you your nearest participating restaurants.

The dreaded terms and conditions…

As with any offer, there are some terms and condition attached to the Meerkat offer.

Meerkat movies – Only available every Tuesday or Wednesday, you will get 2 for 1 on a movie ticket at any participating cinema. This can only be done once a week.

Meerkat meals – available from Sunday to Thursday, you can get 2 for 1 on starters, mains and desserts. The cheapest meals are free for up to 6 diners. Some chain restaurants will cover up to 10 people but you will need to check your Meerkat app.

All this for £1.01 you say?

That’s right. Buy a single trip travel insurance policy to anywhere in the UK for just 1 night, and it will cost you just over £1. You then qualify for Meerkat meals and movies!

However, when I signed up, travel insurance did not qualify me for the offer so I had to purchase a SIM card instead.

The cheapest at the moment is from ID mobile for only £3.99 per month. The great thing is it’s only a one month contract, so as long as you remember to cancel, you’re quids in!

Is it worth it?

Definitely. This a great deal and you can earn your money back with just 1 trip.

  1. Oooo yes I have this, can’t believe I’ve still not used it! I noticed recently they updated the app so now it’s both movies & meals. Really should put it to use, though I do wish with such things there were more 50% off offers (including with the cinema tickets) rather than bogof for those of us who are on our lonesome! Great post and very handy for others to know about this one as it’s a fab way to enjoy your leisure time & save quite a bit of money in the process 🙂
