How to claim your Blue Light Card discount at Currys and Argos

Are you a Blue Light Card holder? Then take a look at how to claim your discount at Currys and Argos… it’s not as simple as just showing your card.

How to Claim Your Blue Light Card Discount At Currys and Argos

Blue Light card discount at Currys and Argos

I am a big fan of the Blue Light Card, which has saved me a lot of money over the years. It’s one of the best discount schemes out there, with so many retailers taking part. If you’re new to the card, you can take a look at my other post looking at the major Blue Light Card discounts, including details about their services day and how to get free entry into music events.

But there is one slight downside. Claiming your discount isn’t always just a case of showing your card and receiving money off. No, there are different processes you have to take. Below, I have listed two of the most popular – Argos and Currys.

Currys Blue Light Card discount

To claim your discount at Currys, you must purchase a gift card. How much this discount will give you varies, but is usually anything between 3% and 7%.

To purchase, search for Currys in the top right corner of their site (a magnifying glass with a pink background). Once you’ve selected the Currys option, at the bottom page will be a button for you to select.

Once you click the button, you’ll be taken to a site called Reward Gateway. Your first step is to choose whether to opt for a gift card, voucher or reloadable voucher. Vouchers will be sent to you almost instantly and should be available to use straight away. I say straight away, but I have seen delays for these of up to one day.

A reloadable voucher is one that can be (unsurprisingly) reloaded. Why would you opt for that over a normal voucher? Well, you can set up an automatic reload if you prefer – which might be useful for your weekly/monthly shopping.

On the other hand, the gift card is a physical product and will be sent to you in the post. If you opt for the card, you can reload the balance when you like.

Usually, you can use both gift cards and vouchers online or in-store. This can be subject to change, so make sure it suits your needs. Before you purchase, check the top of the box just above ‘Buy Now’. As you can see, the card below can be used in-store or online.

Then, it’s a case of choosing the value of your voucher/gift card. The minimum amount is £1 and you can increase it in multiples of £1.

Your discount is applied automatically when you checkout and pay.

Your card will be sent to you and you’re ready to shop. If you have chosen a physical card, you can top it up through the Reward Gateway site again and won’t have to wait for a new one to be sent. Like the reloadable voucher, your gift card can be reloaded automatically.

Argos Blue Light Card discount

The Argos discount works in a very similar fashion to the above. However, I found that when I searched for Argos on the BLC website, Argos didn’t show. Instead, I had to click on ‘Offers from Discounted Gift Cards’.

Again, you will be taken to the Reward Gateway store. But this time, unlike Currys, you can only buy instant vouchers. The good news is the card can be used online and in-store.

Ways to save more

Usually, I would recommend you visit a cashback site before you make your purchase. If you haven’t used these before, all you need to do is click on the Currys or Argos link and earn an extra 1-2% back. However, you don’t always earn cashback when you use a gift card to pay.

Instead, if you have a Nectar card, visit their site and click on the link to Currys or Argos. This will earn you some bonus points.

Airtime Rewards app

This app can’t be used in conjunction with gift cards, but it is useful to know about and could get you an even better discount.

All you need to do is download the app and link your credit or debit card. When you shop in a listed retailer, you’ll automatically earn cashback. Your earnings can then be put towards paying for your mobile phone bill.

The list of retailers changes, but Argos is usually listed, along with stores like Boots, Primark and Matalan.

Take a look at my Airtime Rewards review to see how it works and all of the retailers listed.

Or visit the Blue Light Card website to order your gift cards.
