Suits Me Card Review: Good for Bad Credit, Pricey for Everyday Banking

If you’re struggling to open a UK bank account, or you just want a separate account for wages, benefits or side money, Suits Me is one of the names you’ll come across pretty quickly.

It promises no credit checks, quick sign-up, and fewer hoops than a traditional bank. And for some people, that’s exactly what they need.

But Suits Me isn’t a bank, and it’s not cheap either. This review looks at how it actually works in 2026, what it really costs, and who it makes sense for.

Alternative bank account

If you’re struggling to open a bank account, Suits Me could be a suitable alternative. However, the extra fees could soon add up, and you may need to take out a paid subscription. This isn’t a cheap way to bank, but an option for some to consider.

Quick verdict

Suits Me can be useful if you’ve been turned down elsewhere, you’re new to the UK, or you need an account fast and don’t care about bells and whistles.

But if you plan to use it like a normal current account, lots of Direct Debits, regular cash deposits, and everyday transfers, the fees can stack up quickly. This is very much a short-term or specialist account, not a long-term banking solution for most people.

If your aim is to get back to a “proper” bank account, it’s also worth reading my guide on how to improve your credit score, and my post on mobile phone contracts with bad credit, as both can help you move on from fee-heavy accounts like this.

What is Suits Me?

Suits Me is an FCA-regulated e-money account, not a bank.

That means you get:

  • An account number and sort code
  • A contactless debit card
  • Online banking via app and browser
  • The ability to receive wages or benefits
  • Direct Debits, standing orders and bank transfers

What you don’t get:

  • An overdraft
  • Any form of lending
  • FSCS protection

Instead of FSCS protection, customer money is held separately from Suits Me’s own funds under safeguarding rules. That’s standard for e-money accounts, but it’s still different from having a bank account.

Is Suits Me safe?

Suits Me is authorised and regulated for e-money services, and funds are safeguarded in segregated accounts.

That doesn’t mean zero risk, but it does mean your money isn’t mixed with Suits Me’s operating funds if the company were to run into trouble.

Can you open a Suits Me account with bad credit or a CIFAS marker?

Suits Me does not run credit checks, and it says a CIFAS marker won’t automatically block you from opening an account.

They also advertise “no proof of address” in many cases, although you do need a UK address and you may still be asked for additional checks depending on your situation. There’s always an AML caveat here, which is normal.

This is why Suits Me works best as a short-term or limited-use account; the charges are manageable if you use it lightly, but expensive if you don’t.

A real-world cost example

Here’s a realistic scenario if you use Suits Me as a main account:

  • Weekly cash top-ups
  • 8–10 Direct Debits
  • A few transfers each month

On the Essential plan, you could easily be paying £15–£25 a month in various small fees without really noticing — until you add it up.

That doesn’t make Suits Me “bad”. It just means it’s not designed to be used like free everyday banking.

Cashback and extras

Suits Me offers cashback at selected retailers when you use your card, along with occasional discounts and referral bonuses.

Treat this as a bonus, not the reason to open the account. Cashback rates and retailers change, and for most people, it won’t offset the ongoing usage fees unless you’re spending heavily in the included shops.

Plus, you will find much better discounts from apps like EverUp.

What Suits Me is good for

Suits Me works well if:

  • You’ve been refused by high street or digital banks
  • You’re new to the UK and lack address history
  • You need an account quickly for wages or benefits
  • You want a secondary account to separate spending
  • You want an account with no overdraft or credit risk

For people in those situations, it can genuinely be a useful stop-gap.

What Suits Me is not good for

Suits Me is a poor choice if:

  • You deal with cash frequently
  • You run lots of Direct Debits
  • You want free everyday banking
  • You’re trying to actively build your credit score

Suits Me doesn’t report account behaviour to credit reference agencies, so using it won’t improve your credit file on its own.

If your goal is to move on to a mainstream bank, focus on fixing the underlying issues. Start with improving your credit score and getting accepted for basics like a phone contract, both are covered in the guides linked earlier.

What other users think

Suits Me scores well on review platforms overall, with many users praising customer support and how easy it is to open an account.

Negative reviews usually focus on fees. particularly Direct Debits, declined payments and cash top-ups, which reinforces the point that this account works best when used lightly.

My conclusion

Suits Me fills a gap. When banks say no, it often says yes, and that alone makes it valuable.

Just don’t kid yourself that it’s free or bank-like. The fees are the business model, and if you use it as a normal current account, you’ll feel that pretty quickly.

Used tactically, it can be a helpful stepping stone. Used long-term as your main account, it’s usually not great value.

Suits Me FAQs

Is Suits Me a bank?

No. Suits Me is not a bank, it’s an FCA-regulated e-money account.
You get an account number, sort code and debit card, but you won’t get FSCS protection, overdrafts or lending.

Is my money safe with Suits Me?

Your money isn’t protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Instead, customer funds are safeguarded and kept separate from Suits Me’s own money.
That’s standard for e-money accounts, but it’s not the same as a bank guarantee.

Does Suits Me run a credit check?

Can I open a Suits Me account with a CIFAS marker?
No. Suits Me does not carry out credit checks, and a poor credit history won’t automatically stop you opening an account.
If your long-term goal is to get back to mainstream banking, it’s worth working on the root issue — start with my guide on how to improve your credit score.

Can I open a Suits Me account with a CIFAS marker?

Suits Me states that a CIFAS marker doesn’t automatically disqualify you.
However, extra checks may still apply depending on your circumstances.

Do I need proof of address to open a Suits Me account?

You need a UK address, but Suits Me often advertises that formal proof of address isn’t required.
That said, additional checks can still be requested as part of anti-money-laundering rules.

How much do Direct Debits cost on Suits Me?

Direct Debits are not free, and this is where costs can add up:
Essential: £2.00 per Direct Debit
Premium: 60p per Direct Debit
Premium Plus: 50p per Direct Debit
If you have lots of bills going out each month, Suits Me can become expensive.

Are standing orders free?

Setting up a standing order is free, but each payment is treated like a bank transfer and may be charged depending on your plan.

Is Suits Me good for receiving wages or benefits?

Yes. You can receive wages, benefits and other payments into your Suits Me account just like a normal account.
It’s often used as a temporary account while people sort out credit or address issues.

Can Suits Me help improve my credit score?

No. Using Suits Me does not build your credit history, because account activity isn’t reported to credit reference agencies.

Is Suits Me worth it?

Suits Me is worth considering if you’ve been refused elsewhere or need an account quickly.
It’s usually not worth it as a long-term main account, especially if you:
use lots of Direct Debits
pay in cash regularly
want free everyday banking
Used carefully and short-term, it can be helpful. Used like a normal bank account, it can get expensive fast.

  1. It’s easy to open and even get the card by mail. But then the hell is coming up. 1. Card is not accepted in any store. Tesco, B&M, Sainsbury, small ones – nowhere. Cards are eithe net read, or declined 2. Payments are declined by the SuitMe – and still for every mid payment they impose £1 commission 3. Commission for any transfer. Any move of money at all 4. The same with cash withdrawal. You cannot get cash in any ATM. 5. Support is not working, first you talk to the bot, then they get you in the endless waiting list. 6. PIN code doesn’t match!!! TOTAL: I would call it fraud. It’s not a banking product, it’s a gambling. STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO USE IT
