There are plenty of receipt scanning apps on the market, all willing to give you rewards if you share photos of your shopping. And the latest to appear comes from one of the biggest companies in the world – Amazon. But how does it compare to the rest? Let’s see how it works and how much you can expect to earn.

I love a money-making app. Mainly because it means I can earn when I’m out and about and it’s a simple way to make a little extra money. And more specifically, I love receipt-scanning apps. It means that whenever I go shopping, I can receive some kind of cashback. Ok, so it’s not a life-changing amount, but it does help to take the sting out of the tail after a day’s shopping.
You can see my list of the best receipt scanning apps, but today, I’m going to take a look at Amazon Shopper Panel.
What is Amazon Shopper Panel?
Amazon Shopper Panel is a receipt scanning app that pays you for sending in photos of your receipts. Already popular in the USA, it was finally launched in the UK in March 2022. For every receipt you send in, you’ll earn 10 pence, with a maximum of £5 every month.
Why do they bother?
You’re probably wondering why Amazon would want to pay you for photos of your old receipts. Well, they claim that this information allows brands to offer you better products and make Amazon ads more relevant. Ultimately, they hope to encourage you to buy more at a later date.
How does the app work?
Once downloaded, you’ll need to log in using your Amazon account and fill in some basic details. It takes a few seconds, and you should be ready to go.
When you have a receipt, take a photo using the app. If the receipt is long or double-sided, you can take multiple photographs. Although Amazon says that receipts will be checked and confirmed within 6 hours, in most cases, it can be just a minute.
Amazon will accept receipts from almost all major stores, but it does have to be printed and cannot be more than 30 days old. You can also send in email receipts from your registered email address or upload a screenshot.
If a receipt is rejected, you can request a review.
But scanning receipts isn’t the only way to earn. I’m often sent several surveys each month. These are just a few multiple-choice questions and take less than a minute and pay between 25 and 50 pence each.
How much can you expect to earn?
This depends on how often you shop. To make £5, you’ll need to scan 50 receipts (it used to be just 10). And let’s be honest, most people won’t shop that much.
With Amazon surveys, you can probably make around an extra £3 per month. But it really depends on your demographic. In total, I expect most people will earn around £6 per month from surveys and receipts.
Your earnings are paid automatically within the first 48 hours of the start of the following month. For example, any money you make in March will be paid by the 2nd of April.
As you can see, I have managed to earn £123.85 in 19 months.
Can you earn just Amazon vouchers?
Some other receipts apps will pay you in cash, but Amazon Shopper Panel sticks to just Amazon vouchers. The only other option you have is if you want to donate your earnings to charity. You can choose from

My Amazon Shopper Panel review conclusion
Is it worth it? This is a simple yes. Of course, scanning receipts isn’t going to make you a fortune, but it certainly helps to earn you a bit extra.
Granted, this app isn’t as good as it once was. But most people can earn over £70 per year in vouchers, with minimal effort.

This was a way you could earn an extra £2 per month to allow Amazon access to the ads you see. However, this was scrapped in October 2024.

I have used Amazon shopper panel for a while and got my £5.00 a month for scanning receipts They have now changed and you only get10 pence per receipt so now need to scan 50 receipts to get a £5.00 reward Greedy or what bet they still get a good payment for our receipts, will be closing my account with them

It's a shame that the amount they pay has dropped. However, I'm still going to stick with them for the moment. I'm sure most companies sell whatever data they have on us, so I might as well try and get a little back!

It's rubbish. I've been on it over a month and I'm still on the waiting list to upload receipts. It's boring and I've only had 3 surveys in one month at 25pence each. Not a big money earner at all. You get £2 a month if you turn the ad blocker on but you won't be able to upload any receipts.
