MSR App Review: Is It Worth Selling Your Data?

How do you fancy making money from your phone with very little effort? Well, the MSR app could be the right choice for you.

I’ve been using MSR for over 5 years, and it’s changed quite a bit.

It started as a pretty standard survey app, and honestly, not a great one. Surveys were low-paying and inconsistent.

Now? It’s basically a data-selling platform.

And that’s where the real money comes from. Let’s take a closer look at what’s involved.

MSR summary

MSR app review

Data-sharing & rewards app

MSR is one of the easiest ways to make a bit of extra money each month, but it is no longer a great survey app. The real value is in sharing your data, and while the tasks are simple, I still think the pay is a bit low for what you are giving away.

What is MSR?

MSR (Measure Protocol) is an app that pays you for:

  • Sharing your personal data (this is the main one)
  • Completing occasional surveys
  • Taking part in product tests

The key difference is this:

Instead of just answering questions, you’re uploading data from accounts you already use. Things like:

  • Netflix viewing history
  • ChatGPT usage
  • Social media activity
  • Screen time
  • App usage
  • Amazon purchase history

In short: the stuff companies already collect… but don’t pay you for.

How You Actually Make Money

The main earning method is called “Retro Tasks.”

These are one-off tasks where you:

  1. Request your data from a platform (e.g. Amazon, Google, Instagram)
  2. Download it
  3. Upload it to MSR
  4. Get paid

Each one typically pays around:

  • £0.80 – £2.50 per task
  • Most average about £1 each

Do enough of them, and you’re looking at:

👉 £10–£15 per month

Sometimes, MSR will offer a further £10 bonus if you complete a certain number of tasks, on top of the money you already earn.

This puts it in the same category as other get-paid-to apps like Swagbucks, where you earn small amounts consistently rather than big payouts.

My Experience (5+ Years In)

Here’s the honest take:

  • It’s very easy money
  • Tasks take a few minutes each
  • Payments are reliable
  • But…

👉 It underpays for the data you’re giving

I’ve shared similar data elsewhere for much more.

For example:

That’s a big difference when MSR might pay £1–£2 for the same type of access.

So while MSR is convenient… it’s not the best-paying option out there. But, with that said, The Clear! app has only ever once asked for my data, so it’s not a regular earner.

That’s why I’d always combine it with other money-making apps rather than relying on it alone.

Cashing Out

You can withdraw once you hit £10 via:

  • PayPal cash
  • Gift cards (e.g. Amazon)

No major issues here. Payouts are straightforward and are usually instant.

What Happened To MSR Surveys?

I’m not really sure. When I first started using the app, they were fairly regular. But as the data sharing tasks appeared, the surveys started to dry up.

In all honesty, that wasn’t a terrible thing. The surveys were usually poorly paid.

👉 If you want proper survey earnings, you’re better off using one of the higher-paying survey apps in the UK.

Is MSR Safe?

MSR is a legitimate platform and widely used in market research.

But here’s the real question:

👉 Are you comfortable selling your data?

Because that’s what this is.

If that doesn’t sit right with you, this app isn’t for you. Simple as that.

Final Verdict

MSR is one of the easiest ways to make a small amount of money each month.

When it comes to using the app, I’m a little torn. I’m not 100% convinced about selling my data, especially when I think it’s worth more.

But then I think, my data is already out there and I know it’s been stolen multiple times. So I might as well get a bit of money back for it.

It’s really up to you if you feel comfortable using MSR. For me, I’m going to carry on with my £10 per month.

Take a look at other money-making sites if you’re keen on boosting your earnings further.
