Ah, Toby Carvery. The home of roast dinners, unlimited veg, Yorkshire puddings the size of your head and depressing-looking carpets. What’s not to love? Well, maybe the prices. So here are a couple of handy tips on how to save money

Tip 1 – discount codes
Now, there are usually loads of these flying around – usually offering 20 – 25% off of your food bill. But check the and T&C’s first. Most are limited to six people and some can only be used Monday to Thursday.
They do say to let your server know you have a discount before you order, but I’ve always said when I’ve asked for the bill.
- If you’re an Octopus Energy customer, they’re often on the Octoplus offers part of the app.
- If you work for the emergency services or social care and qualify for the Blue Light Card, codes are usually available there. More information can be found at the Toby Carvery site here.
- Sign up for the Toby Carvery app. New members usually get a 25% discount code.* However, this can be a kid’s eat free deal during half-term. This isn’t as good value.
- Join Kids Pass. This is a paid membership, but it comes with discounts for lots of restaurants, days out and cinema tickets.
*Just to add, there’s nothing stopping you from creating new accounts with Toby Carvery every time you visit. All you need is a new email address

Tip 2 – gift cards
This can take a little more effort (I’m talking 2 minutes), but it’s certainly worth it. Plus, you can stack it with your discount voucher.
Several apps allow you to buy gift cards for certain retailers and earn cashback. This cashback can usually be withdrawn to your bank account or used towards future gift cards.
The top paying app is generally EverUp, which pays in the region of 12% for a Toby Carvery gift card.
Now, you can either buy the gift card before you go or buy one after you’ve got your bill. It takes about a minute to do and all you need to do then is to read out the code to your server. Easy.
If you don’t spend the whole amount of your gift card, the remaining amount can be spent at a later date.

Tip 3 – get somebody else to pay
If you know somebody who’s well-off or you have generous family members, try inviting them. And then during dinner, lay it on thick about how poor you are.
I’ve tried it and had no success, so I can’t really vouch for this tip. Still, it might work one day.
How much can you save?
If tip 3 works, nothing!
If not, how much you save depends on how much you eat. But let’s say your total food bill comes to £80.
With a 25% voucher, that saves £20, making it £60.
And 12% cashback from the gift card will save another £7.20, bringing the food bill down to £52.80.
A grand saving of
Wait for it…
£27.20!
Of course, you will need to buy drinks too. The vouchers usually don’t cover beverages, but the gift cards do. At least that’s something.
Plus, Toby Carvery has its own rewards scheme, so don’t forget to scan every time you go.
