JamDoughnut app review and referral code

The JamDoughnut app claims it can save you over £800 per year when you shop. But how does this cashback app work, and can you really save that much money? Plus, I’ll share with you my referral code so you’ll have an extra bonus to get you started.

JamDoughnut summary

An incredibly useful app to have on your phone and you can find some decent discounts both in-store and online. We’re not talking huge sums, but the money saved will quickly add up. It’s a shame there’s a small fee for withdrawing cash, but it’s something I can overlook.

JamDoughnut

With so many cashback sites and money-making apps on the market, surely we don’t need any more? Wrong! There’s always room for more. And one of the latest to cross my path was JamDoughnut.

What is the JamDoughnut app?

Essentially, it’s a cashback site, meaning you earn money back when you shop. But unlike many cashback sites where you have to click on a link before you make a purchase, JamDoughnut saves you money when you purchase gift cards instead.

How does JamDoughnut work?

First, you’ll need to download the app from the App Store or Google Play and create an account. It should only take a couple of minutes.

Then, it’s a case of looking through the retailers listed on the app.

Retailers on the JamDoughnut app

When you find a shop that you use, click on the link and buy a gift card for however much you need. Amounts vary, but it’s usually a minimum of £1 up to a maximum of £100. When you make your purchase, you’ll be credited with points into your JamDoughnut account.

You can either make your gift card purchase by bank transfer or by using Google Pay or Apple Pay. Be warned, the cashback rates are much lower using either of the latter two payments. I’m assuming that this is because JamDoughnut has to pay extra fees.

If you choose bank transfer, JamDoughnut will send you to your chosen bank’s app and all the details are prefilled. It usually takes less than a minute to complete the purchase.

Your gift card will be sent to your JamDoughnut wallet for you to access whenever you need it. Once it’s all spent, it can be sent to the archive.

In most cases, a gift card can be used online and in-store, but JamDoughnut will tell you beforehand.

When you’ve earned a minimum of 1,000 points, they can be swapped for cash or gift cards.

How much cashback can you expect?

This depends on the store but can be between 3% and 24%. On average, expect around 5%.

Which stores are included?

At the moment, there are over 150 stores listed on the app. If you’ve used a cashback site, you’ll know that stores can come and go. But at the moment, shops include

  • Adidas
  • Airbnb
  • Amazon
  • Apple
  • Asda
  • B&M
  • B&Q
  • Cineworld
  • Costa
  • Just Eat
  • M&S
  • Morrisons
  • Nando’s
  • Primark
  • Sainsbury’s
  • Sports Direct
  • Spotify
  • Tesco
  • Uber Eats

Jammy Deals

In the app, you’ll find a ‘Jammy Deals’ section. This has a mixture of offers, such as sales happening at online stores and bonuses for signing up for new services. But I’ve yet to see anything unique to JamDoughnut and all of these deals can be found elsewhere.

‘Pumped up’ Deals

Keep an eye out for these. A pumped up deal is an increased cashback rate offered for a limited period. We’re only talking a couple of percent, but you’ll certainly get more for your money.

Offers Near Me

At the bottom of the app, you’ll find a button showing you more localised offers. At the moment, these tend to be pub and restaurant discounts.

Cashing out

Once you reach 1,000 points, click the ‘Cash Out’ button on the homepage and you can withdraw your earnings. This can either be as cash to your bank account or as a gift card.

If you opt for cash, this comes with a 30 pence fee, no matter how much you withdraw. The money should be in your bank within two working days.

Gift cards are instant and free. As an added bonus, your gift card will usually be topped up by an extra couple of per cent. There are well over 100 gift cards to choose from, so there’s plenty of choice.

My JamDoughnut savings

Any downsides?

Besides the 30 pence fee I’ve just mentioned…

If you’re making a purchase in-store, you’re at the mercy of your mobile phone reception. My local Primark is a pain and it can take a few minutes to connect.

It’s important to note that gift cards are non-refundable, so you need to be sure you want them before making a purchase. However, this is the same rule for every store that sells gift cards.

Your JamDoughnut cashback points do expire. Bonus points go within six months and the rest, within twelve. Make sure you cash them in before they expire.

Finally, you also need to know that it’s highly unlikely that you can stack JamDoughnut with other cashback sites. You may be tempted, for example, to click on a link through TopCashback before you make your purchase. But sites like TopCashback rarely give you cashback if you buy using a gift card.

And check cashback rates before you buy if you’re shopping online. There’s no point buying a gift card from JamDoughnut with a cashback rate of 3% if TopCashback offers a rate of 4%.

Refer a friend scheme

If you fancy boosting your earnings, JamDoughnut offers a referral scheme. Share your unique code and every time a friend joins and cashes out, you’ll earn 400 points (£4).

What other people say

Over on Trustpilot, the app scores an excellent 4.7 out of 5 from over 1,000 reviews. It also scores 4.8 from almost 2,000 reviews on the Apple App Store.

My experience with the app

Overall, JamDoughnut has saved me a lot of money in a short space of time. As an avid user of both HelloFresh and Just Eat, buying vouchers from JamDoughnut regularly reduces the amount I’m spending.

I’ve also saved when shopping for the kids in Primark, Sports Direct Clarks. As I mentioned above, apart from the odd issue with my mobile reception, it’s been an easy way to cut my shopping bills.

But looking through my history, I am slightly concerned that I spend too much time at home, ordering from Just Eat…

My JamDoughnut app review conclusion

Overall, a very useful app and it should give you some decent savings. JamDoughnut manages to provide you with discounts at stores that aren’t listed on many cashback sites.

Yes, it will take you a minute or so to purchase a gift card, but considering this can save up to 10% on a purchase, it’s certainly worth it.

It’s just a matter of remembering to use it! great cashback apps

Hello, just to let you know that you absolutely can use JamDoughnut with other cashback sites. I have made purchases through Topcashback/Quidco and paid with JamDoughnut gift cards and have not had any issues.

If you combine this with the Chase Bank account which offers 1% cashback on all purchases for a year or the Monese account which pays 1.5% cashback until the end of this year, there are potentially big savings to be made.

Good article.👍

Hi Zoe, thanks for the tips. I can only write from my experience, but I have been turned down for cashback before because I have used a gift card to make a payment.
