My Nectar Prices Explained: Are Sainsbury’s Personalised Discounts Worth It?

If you shop regularly at Sainsbury’s, you’ve probably seen My Nectar Prices pop up in the app or on shelf labels. But what actually are they — and are they worth paying attention to?

Most of us already carry at least one supermarket loyalty card, and in the UK the big two are Tesco Clubcard and Nectar.

For years, Tesco had the upper hand. Clubcard Prices offered instant, obvious savings, while Nectar mostly focused on collecting points and spending them later. In comparison, it felt… underwhelming.

My Nectar Prices is Nectar’s attempt to close that gap — and it actually does a better job than many people realise.

What is My Nectar Prices?

What are My Nectar Prices?

My Nectar Prices are personalised discounts based on what you actually buy. These aren’t generic offers designed to tempt you into random products you’ll never touch again. Instead, they’re targeted savings on items you already put in your trolley week after week.

If you shop the same brands regularly (and most of us do), this is where Nectar quietly saves you money without much effort on your part. The savings come off instantly at the till, rather than being added as points later — which is useful when you already know how much Nectar points are worth and how slowly they can build up on their own.

That said, My Nectar Prices work best alongside points. You still earn Nectar points as usual, and you can keep track of their value using a Nectar points calculator to see exactly what you’re building up over time.

It’s also worth seeing these personalised prices as Nectar’s replacement for the old Nectar Double Up style events. Those big, headline-grabbing promotions are probably gone for good, but My Nectar Prices are a more consistent, low-key way of saving instead — less exciting, but far more regular.

How do My Nectar Prices work?

First, you need to check what offers you’ve been given.

Log in to the Nectar website and head to the Prices section, or open the Nectar app and tap My Prices.

Offers refresh every Friday and are valid for seven days.

Then just shop as normal:
• In-store
• Online
• Using SmartShop

As long as you scan your Nectar card or app, the discount applies automatically at checkout. No vouchers. No codes. No hassle.

What kind of offers will you actually get?

This depends entirely on your shopping habits.

Nectar says there are “hundreds of products” included, but in reality I usually see 15–20 personalised offers per week. That sounds low, but here’s the key point — almost all of them are things I buy anyway.

Savings are usually:
• 10p to £1 per item
• Usable multiple times during the week

That’s the difference between gimmicks and genuine savings.

Is My Nectar Prices worth it?

Short answer: yes, if you already shop at Sainsbury’s.

Nectar claims shoppers could save up to £200 per year, which sounds optimistic — but not impossible. The discounts aren’t dramatic, but they’re consistent, and they apply to everyday shopping rather than one-off treats.

You won’t notice the saving on a single shop. You will notice it over a year.

Don’t ignore Nectar Offers either

Inside the Nectar app, there’s also an Offers section. This is separate from My Nectar Prices and focuses on bonus points rather than instant discounts.

Typical offers give:
• 20–100 extra Nectar points
• Worth 10p–50p

Again, not life-changing — but easy money. Just tap Save offer and shop as usual.

Every now and then, Nectar also throws in whole-shop discounts, which are where things get more interesting. I regularly see offers like:
• £7 off a £70 shop
• £9 off £90

These vouchers usually specify whether they’re valid online or in-store, so always check before you rely on one.

FAQs

What is SmartShop?

SmartShop is Sainsbury’s scan-as-you-shop system. You scan items as you put them in your trolley, bag as you go, and then pay without unloading everything again at the till.
