Opinion Exchange Review: A Decent Earner

Surveys, online interviews and focus groups can all be good ways to make extra money. And what if one site offered all three? Is Opinion Exchange like the Royal Mail and reliably delivers, or more like Evri and leaves you wondering what happened? Let’s take a look.

Opinion Exchange sits somewhere between a traditional survey site and a paid focus group platform. If you’re mainly interested in surveys, it works best alongside the best paid survey sites. If you’re chasing higher-paying interviews and discussions, it also overlaps with the UK focus groups, just on a smaller scale.

Fast payouts (often within 1–2 days) and a decent mix of surveys, interviews and focus groups, with the occasional high-paying study. It’s still quieter than the biggest platforms and the best-paid studies can be competitive.

I’ll be honest, I’m not 100% sure how I first signed up to Opinion Exchange. I have a habit of scrolling on my phone with a drink in hand at weekends and occasionally waking up having joined things I don’t fully remember. I suspect Opinion Exchange was one of those moments.

Anyhoo, let’s take a look at how I go on.

What is Opinion Exchange?

Opinion Exchange is a market research platform where users can participate in surveys, focus groups, interviews, and product testing to share their opinions on various topics. These contributions help companies shape their products and services. Users earn rewards, which can be redeemed as cash (via PayPal) or vouchers once a minimum threshold of £5 is reached.

Is it safe?

Opinion Exchange is owned by DJS Research, a UK-based company that has been running research groups and panels since 2005. If you’ve taken surveys from sites like Branded Surveys and Swagbucks, you may have come across them before. Opinion Exchange its

How does it work?

So, this is all pretty standard for a survey site. You’ll need to create an account with some personal details, which takes a couple of minutes.

Then, you’ll need to fill out a profile survey. Compared to some sites, this isn’t too bad and only takes around 10 minutes… although you won’t be paid for it. But it’s important for you to do as it should mean you’ll be sent more surveys.

Then it’s a case of waiting. When there’s a task for you to complete, it will appear on your dashboard and through email.

When you complete a survey, you’ll earn points (1 point = 1 pence). And when you reach 500 points (£5), you can withdraw your earnings.

The good

The big plus to Opinion exchange is that it generally pays more for a survey compared to many of its competitors. And let’s be honest, that’s what we’re here for.

Another positive is the fact that it usually hosts its own surveys. That means you shouldn’t waste your time being screened out or being bounced around from one survey to the next.

It’s also good that you can withdraw at just £5. Some sites set a minimum of as much as £50.

The fourth positive is… wait, that’s it. But don’t be fooled, the first three points are big a big plus.

Any downsides?

It annoys me that the profile survey sits permanently on my dashboard. It would just be nice for it to appear when my details need updating. A minor annoyance, but still, it’s there.

There’s no dedicated Opinion Exchange app. I do like the option to make money when I’m travelling (or I can’t be bothered to walk across the room to my computer), but it’s not here, unfortunately.

And this site hasn’t been a big earner for me. As you can see, after about a third of a year, I’ve earned £16.50. Not even enough to take my kids to McDonald’s. Which is probably a good thing.

Finally, the number of invites to focus groups and interviews has been limited… for me at least. I’ve seen a couple, but nothing like the number I see from other sites. Why not take a look at my post on the best sites for online interviews and focus groups?

How much can you earn from Opinion Exchange?

As with most survey sites, the amount you earn for each survey varies. In general, expect to earn about £3 for 15 minutes – which is £12 per hour. Now, that’s a decent rate of pay.

If you’re invited to focus groups, you can earn far more and pay can be anywhere north of £40 per hour.

Payment can be made through PayPal when you reach £5. It’s not instant though, and usually takes a few days to come through.

Is there a referral scheme?

Opinion Exchange does allow you to refer friends… but it’s not the most generous. Share your referral link and if a friend goes on to complete three surveys, you’ll receive 50 pence. Whoop. But to stop you from earning millions, you can only refer three friends each week.

What other people think

Strangely, there’s no review of Opinion Exchange on Trustpilot. In fact, there are very few reviews anywhere. I did find a few mentions on Facebook, but nothing worth noting. Which is strange for a site that’s been going for quite a few years.

My Opinion Exchange review conclusion

Opinion Exchange isn’t a standout earner on its own, but it has improved over time. There’s a steadier flow of work than there used to be, payments are fast, and some studies pay very well.

I wouldn’t rely on it alone, but as part of a wider setup alongside the other survey sites and focus groups, it earns its place. I still check it regularly and pick up the odd payout here and there, and that extra money soon adds up.
