Honeygain Review – A Slow But Passive Way To Make Money

How would you fancy earning extra from doing nothing? Well, there is a site that promises you just that. Take a look at my Honeygain review to see why this ‘free money’ probably isn’t worth the effort.

Honeygain review

Have you ever heard of a passive income? Basically, it’s a way of making money when you’re not actually doing anything. For example, when people look through my blog, I’ll earn a small income because they’ll see some adverts. I think it would be a dream come true for most of us to earn a decent amount without actually having to do much.

I recently came across Honeygain, which promised another way to make a passive income. Intrigued, I thought I would give it a go to see how much I could really make.

What is Honeygain?

According to their website:

Honeygain is a crowdsourced network company which enables other businesses to conduct web intelligence, market research and content delivery.

Has that cleared, things up? Probably not. Put simply, Honeygain utilises any of your unused internet bandwidth and shares it with data scientists.

Is Honeygain safe?

It’s all very well sharing your unused internet, but what is it actually used for? Honeygain explains that the traffic is used by their approved business partners who run web intelligence, market research and content delivery services. The network is also used for brand protection campaigns, perform SEO monitoring, as well as conduct ad verification.

Honeygain doesn’t keep any information about you, only your email address, IP address and chosen payment method.

The issue I have is in finding an address. It says on their site:

We are a team of people based in completely different regions, hence, there is no way to pinpoint a single location on where we are based. The project is being developed by a team of remote employees in 10 (yes, 10!) different countries, we do not have a real dedicated office and thus, we do not have a physical address.

It’s one of the few times I’ve looked at a privacy page that doesn’t have a physical address listed. Even with the nature of the business, you would expect any company to have an address for taxes and accounts.

How does it work?

First of all, you will need to download the Honeygain software to your chosen device. Currently, it works on 3 systems – Windows, Android and macOS. That means that you can’t download Honeygain for iPhone or iPad.

Once running, the software will run in the background and you’ll start earning money. The more KBs you bring into Honeygain, the more credits you’re rewarded with and the more you earn. You don’t have to do anything else.

You’re not restricted to running Honeygain from just one device either and can install it in as many compatible devices as you like, potentially increasing your earnings.

Once you reach $20, you can withdraw the earnings into your PayPal account.

How much can you really earn with Honeygain?

So, this is the real question.

There is a calculator on the main site that tells you how much you can earn depending on the number of GB’s transferred per day. For example, 10GB will earn you up to $30 per day.

The issue is, you have no control over this , so how many GB’s used is completely out of your hands. It really depends on the demand and the average network bandwidth. Plus, your device needs to be turned on for you to earn.

There is the option to turn on Honeygain’s Content Delivery. This shares your internet connection to deliver bandwidth-intensive content including images, videos, audio, streaming, heavy websites, IPTV, VOD, social media, or VoIP services. Ultimately, this gives you the chance to earn even more.

My experience

I downloaded the software onto my Mac. As I’m working from home at the moment, answering surveys and writing my blog, my Mac is generally on for around 16 hours per day. I also turned on Content Delivery in the hope to increase my earnings.

I have fibre broadband at home, although speeds aren’t great, varying between 10 and 20 Mbps. Plus, my children seem to constantly be on YouTube or playing games over the internet.

Within the first day and a half, I had delivered 359.39 MB, which earned me 359 credits.

Honeygain credits

With 10 credits being equal to $0.01 (1 cent), that meant I had earned just over $0.03. Not a great start.

Within 2 weeks, I had earned $0.40. All in all, pretty disappointing.

My Honeygain review conclusion

I love the idea of having a passive income, I really do. However, my earnings from Honeygain were pretty poor. This could have been due to my internet not being the fastest and the heavy usage from my family.

But what’s the harm of running the software anyway? Well, traffic sharing does use battery power – estimated by Honeygain to be around 5-8%, although that could be a conservative guess. That means that although you’re making some money, you’re also spending extra on electricity, although this should be negligible.

The lack of a physical address would usually concern me. However, Honeygain has been running for some time and there are plenty of reviews over the net.

If you’re looking for a passive income, then it might be worth trying to see if you have better luck than me. Give it a couple of weeks to see what kind of earnings you can expect.
